Drawing Line In The Sand
How are your boundaries? Are you good at drawing a line in the sand to let people know what you will and will not accept? Or do you allow armies of toxic people trample all over you?
This weekend, I was watching two of Oprah's Life Class segments and both dealt with toxic and mean people who infiltrate our lives. (If you have the OWN Network on cable, I highly recommend checking these out!) One of the shows featured Dr. Phil's new book Life Code that identifies these personalities as toxic in our life as BAITER's:
B (Backstabbers)
A (Abusers)
I (Imposters)
T (Takers)
E (Exploiters)
R (Reckless)
At one time, we have all allowed a BAITER into our life and for many, we allow them to stay and wreak havoc. And some people have acted like a BAITER.
So what do you do when you assess the people in your life (family, friends, coworkers, etc.) and determine that you have a BAITER or two? Simply put, you must draw a line in the sand of what you will tolerate. If someone is consistently mean, rude, dismissive, calls names, puts you down, ignores you, takes from you, or treats you in a way that leaves you feeling depressed, then you need to decide whether drawing a line in the sane is appropriate, or whether kicking them out of your life is warranted.
Most people feel that they cannot set boundaries or give a kick in the keester to some people (especially family). Who made that rule? I don't know who made that rule. We are living in a different energetic age and time, so the old rule book has been tossed out. If you allow people to behave badly in your life, then you are not living your life to its fullest potential. Period! Only YOU can allow someone to make you feel bad; so why have that person in your life? It's your choice. So decide!!!!!!
I see far too many people acting weak in the knees around BAITERs and then in the wake of engagement with a BAITER they waste their time complaining, crying and feeling sad for themselves. What sort of energy do you think that sends out? It's negative energy that will draw more negative energy to you. You are better than that sweet pea!
So now is the time for you to reclaim your life, draw a line in the sand of what is not acceptable, and stand up for yourself. People who truly love you would stand between you and a bully and declare "Back off!" You need to love yourself enough to say the same thing.
I recommend getting a copy of "Life Code" or contact me about coaching where I will help you recognize the BAITERs in your life, acknowledge your strength and help you draw only positive people into your life.
I would love to hear from you if you have a BAITER in your life and what you did (or are doing) to protect yourself!
Stay strong and positive!!
